Automaker with Floor Space Limitations

A US auto manufacturer was designing production lines for new vehicle model years. Accommodating all process and assembly requirements with limited floor space presents a significant challenge. Equipment must meet all workflow, quality and safety standards while maintaining the smallest possible footprint.

For this particular manufacturer, HeatTek designed a process for rear access doors before final assembly on the new model year SUV. The curing process occurred immediately after the adhesive dispensing stage on the final assembly line and required the lift gates to be taken offline, elevated above the assembly line, cured and cooled, and then delivered back onto the assembly line for final assembly.

The HeatTek "HOP line” (Hang On Parts line) was a complete success from a process standpoint. Curing and cooling exceeded the specification. Conveying and transferring the racks of lift gates off the main line and introducing them back to the assembly line was also successful. The entire HeatTek installation took place over the main BIW (Body in White) assembly line.

HeatTek oversaw the entire installation to ensure smooth integration with existing processes. The HeatTek Parts Team has also assisted the customer with a spare parts program to ensure seamless operations.
