Electric Motor Industry Coating Systems and Equipment

HeatTek’s background and expertise in the electric motor industry dates back over thirty years giving us the expertise needed to design a custom designed system that meets your expectations and more. In the past, HeatTek primarily designed and built convection ovens, however with the changes from high VOC based varnishes to water based varnishes and epoxies and quick curing resin formulations the equipment has evolved into smaller lean cell concept machines. As a result of this, HeatTek’s designs now include virtually any heating method including not only Convection heating but Induction, Infrared, Resistance, and combinations or these methods as well. HeatTek also offers Paint bake, Rotor Shrink Ovens, Lamination Burn off and Annealing equipment.

Trickle Coat SystemsTrickle Coat Systems

Trickle coat systems are designed to apply varnish or epoxy onto parts as they are held and rotated. Resin is dispensed over the part in specific locations at controlled volumes and flow rates. As a result, resin can be applied very accurately with little or no excess resin lost or coating deposited on the part in an undesirable areas. PLC’s and linear motion actuators are used to accurately locate varnish trickle heads and to automatically adjust trickle head positions for varying part sizes. HeatTek will work with your coating supplier to develop the correct coating volumes, rotational speeds, and preheat and cure temperatures and times for the parts being processed. HeatTek trickle systems are used by automotive component manufacturers, power tool manufacturers, and small motor manufacturers.

Roll Coat SystemsRoll Coat Systems

Roll Coat systems feature one distinctive difference from a trickle system. That is that the part is partially submerged in resin or epoxy during the coating process. Roll coating allows the parts to be completely coated in resin as far as the part is submerged. Rotating the part during the submerging and controlling the speed of the rotating part aids in reducing the resin traveling to non desirable areas. If parts are preheated prior to coating, the roll coat system most often includes a resin cooling system due to the heat that is deposited into the resin. Roll coat systems are designed to flow the correct volumes of resin so that the resin can be cooled, settling of particulate is minimized, and coatings can be kept thoroughly mixed.

Varnish Dip and Bake Systems

Varnish Dip and Bake SystemsAlthough Varnish Dip and Bake Systems are considered old technology, this type of equipment is still a very common method of coating and curing parts. Higher production rates, part size, and the type of resin used quite often make the conventional Dip and Bake system the most economic design. Dip and Bake systems are designed to include preheat ovens, coating enclosures, drain areas, fire protection systems, cure ovens, coolers, conveying systems, automated controls, and automated loading systems. Dip and Bake systems can be designed to fit onto the factory floor, elevated inside the factory or be located outside on a roof or at ground level. Systems are designed to be either factory built in modules or to be assembled on site.

Infrared Heating Systems

Infrared Heating SystemsHeatTek Infrared Systems utilize various types and styles of wavelength emitters for each specific system. These systems include quartz emitters, incoloy sheathed elements, and gas fired catalytic heaters. Common Infrared Heat applications include heating applications for powder paint curing, polyester resin curing applications, epoxy curing applications, and preheating applications for coatings. HeatTek systems are used in small motor applications such as fans, power tools, small electric appliances, and transformers.

Induction Heating Systems

Induction Heating SystemsInduction heating is accomplished by placing a conductive part (normally steel) inside or near an induction coil. When power is applied to the coil a magnetic field is generated and energy is conducted to the steel components of the part. Similar to microwave heating of water, the steel components become excited. This magnetic field is converted very quickly to heat. HeatTek utilizes this principal in processing various motors components such as stators, rotors, and armatures in preheating or post heating applications to minimize the processing times. Induction power supplies are sized to handle each application based on the mass and production rates of each application.

Resistance Heating Systems

Resistance Heating SystemsHeatTek offers a line of resistance heat systems designed to process Stators, Rotors and armatures from 1 to 2000 pounds using resistance heat alone or in combination with other heating methods. Resistance heat is created using power supplies utilizing SCR controllers connected to the part lead wires or to the commutator. Parts can be processed either independently or automatically on line by slip ring assemblies that extend and retract with the conveyor movement. The rate at which parts are heated is then controlled by the known resistance at various temperatures, the wire size and the final preheat or cure temperatures for the resin being coated. Each application is designed for the type of part, size, quantity to be processed and task to be accomplished. In many applications resistance heat will be combined induction heat, convection heat, and IR heat for final curing or maintaining part temperature after the initial resistance heat application.

Lamination Burn Off and Annealing Furnaces

Lamination Burn Off

HeatTek designs include furnaces for all types of aluminum heat treating and the heat treatment of steel up to 2000 degrees F. Solution Heat Treating, Annealing, Lamination Burn-Off, Bluing, and ambient or inert atmospheres are offered. HeatTek designs incorporate the latest advancements in insulation technology along with custom designed control systems to meet your needs. Our engineering background is based in the furnace industry which is evident in the heavy duty construction of our furnace shells, interiors and conveying systems.
